Juniors getting ready for 2010

Ballina Rugby Club Juniors are planning a big 2010 and is on the lookout for new and returning players. Training will start in the new year, with the main season kicking off in the New Year

The Club offers a safe and fun environment for all players and welcomes you no matter your experience playing rugby. Whether it is your first try or you have played for another club, join the Ballina Rugby family and you will never look back.

You might have some questions and hopefully we have answered most of them here, if you have any others please contact us using the contact us page.

Is Rugby Safe?

Rugby Union is comparatively safe compared with most junior sports. We play in a maximum safety environment, and one of the most important elements of our training is how to minimise risk and how to protect yourself. Being a contact sport there will be some bumps and bruises, but this is part of the fun of the game.

For in the under 8s we play two handed touch rugby which gives the children a chance to learn the basics in a very safe environment. At the under 10s the contact level increases progressively but it is still played in a safe environment.

What if I am a smaller player?

At Ballina Rugby Club Juniors we work to ensure that every player gets a fair go. Whilst sometimes you might be outsized by a bigger player, you will find that rugby as a sport needs players of all shapes and sizes. At training you will learn how to play against the bigger players and hopefully how to bring them down.

What does training involve?

A general training session covers skills, fitness and most importantly having fun. We ensure that we cover all the safety aspect of playing, and ensure that you increase your skills to maximise your enjoyment of the game. Most of the players in the senior club came through a junior program.

Do I have to play?

If you train there is no requirement for you to play at any time. If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe at any time you will not be forced onto the field, the decision is up to you. We understand that it can be daunting the first few times and playing will always be done when you are ready, never earlier. You will find though that once you get into the game you will not want to stop, some of the senior players have been playing since they were 10 and are still playing at age 60.

Can Mum and Dad come down and watch?

At each training and game there are facilities for your parents to watch, and if they are interested we are always on the lookout for more people to help with the running of the club.

I don’t know anyone at the club, does this matter?

Once you start playing rugby you will find that you make lots of new friends. Club is played throughout the world and most (if not all clubs) are welcoming of new players. Some of the senior players have travelled the world through rugby, going from club to club and making lots of friends throughout the way.

How can I find out more about playing rugby or what if I have more questions?

On the right of the page is the contact us page, fill in your details and we will be in contact with you as soon as we can.

    Hi Sam,

At this stage there should be an under 13s team next year. Locally they don’t have a weight grade, fortunately unlike the cities there is not a lot of size difference across the teams.

But if you have any questions feel free to send them to info@ballinarugby.com.au
