Want to Play Rugby in Australia 2010

BALLINA RUGBY IS BEST OPTION

If you want to travel to Australia in 2010 and would like to play rugby, then Ballina Rugby Club can help you.

We are a friendly, amateur club on the East coast of Australia. Ballina has an ideal mild climate with wonderful surfing beaches, a relaxed lifestyle, and plenty of recreational activities like fishing, surfing, kayaking, bush walking, hang gliding to name a few. We field three open teams and a colts / under 19 team in the Far North Coast competition, which runs from late March to early September. We have our own club house, gym, excellent training facilities, and welcome players from all corners of the rugby playing world.

The level of rugby in the Competition is similar to division 3 in the UK, division 1/2 in the US, regional in South Africa and France. We are a very successful club and pride ourselves on playing a tough brand of rugby. We have excellent coaching staff, trainers and medical support.

For those of you who have never heard of Ballina, you would have heard of Byron Bay, we are about 30kms south of Byron, close enough to enjoy it but far enough away to avoid the crowds.

At the moment there is a lot of road building going on in the region with expectations that this will last for at least another five years. The economy in the area is quite strong with a high level of tourist numbers during the summer months.

REQUIREMENTS

You will need a few things before you leave home, but we can also help you. We are an amateur club, so don’t pay our players, but we can always help you get a job and a place in live.

Plan your trip and organise the following

- Return air ticket
- Spending money
- Travel insurance and make sure it covers you for contact sports
- Your passport and a visa.

VISA CATEGORIES

Some countries such as Ireland, UK, Canada, France (and a some others), have an arrangement with Australia that allows young people to work whilst over here. Players from these countries should apply for a WORKING HOLIDAY VISA class 417. If you are from the USA you need a WORKING HOLIDAY VISA class 462.

South African players need to get a TOURIST VISA class 676, and request at least a 6 months stay. This visa does not allow you to work, but the club will assist you wherever possible.

PERMANENT VISITOR

Australia has a more liberate immigration policy for those who are skilled and looking to move into regional areas.

The programmes aim to attract young, skilled, English speaking migrants to areas of Australia where they are most needed. Generally, skilled migrants are under 45 years of age, have functional English, diploma level qualifications or above and relevant work experience. Obviously if you are interested in having a permanent stay in Australia we would be more than willing to point you in the right direction.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED ?

Your boots and training gear. A good attitude and the ability to fit in and have a good time.

Contact us via the website and come for a season, or two.
