Around the Grounds - Round 12 - Ballina vs Lismore City & Tenterfield.

Only 2 games played across the Seniors and Juniors this round due to the soaking rain that has covered the region for the last week or so. The Lismore City games are hard to play at the best of times with their ground by the river and so 1sts and 2nds get to have another catch up game.

The Ballina Seahorses Presidents Cup ( aka. Dark Horses) had a home game against the Tenterfield Bumblebees and this was well attended and supported.

In juniors for whom we are now also providing match reports, only Commish’s Under 13 team got a game. The club is looking to integrate the junior and senior sides and the match reports will all get captured in Seahorse Nation. Make sure you let the parents of all the junior teams know about the match reports and to sign up for the regular Seahorse Nation newsletter.

Under 13’s - Lennox Head - Coach : Paul Davies.

After a very wet week and no training due to the closure of grounds, the Seahorse 13’s went into a traditionally hard contest a little underdone. And with some late withdrawals due to sickness and injury, our usual overflowing bench was down to one reserve.

The first half was a very willing tussle with both sides running very hard into at times some very vigorous defence, and the game was played from one end to the other. Ballina’s line defence once again proved itself to be one of the best in the competition, holding out Lennox on a number of occasions and with a couple of great steals by Taz Milner and Finn Jonsson, we were able to make our way up-field away from danger. We were able to put first points on the board ¾  into the half with an uncoached backyard trained cross kick from our hooker for the night Finn Jonsson, which looked ugly from the boot but landed with pin point accuracy in the in goal for Jai Armstrong to dive on and score. Kobe Courtney provided the extras with a near sideline conversion. Lennox hit back late in the first half with an unconverted try.

Tiring late in the first half we were happy for the break to catch some breath and re focus for the second half.

The second stanza was very much like the first with both sides working hard to find some structure and stability up the middle of the paddock. Some great runs from forwards Elijah Thaiday-Shinn, Zac Busteed and Finn Jonsson and some better tactical kicking for position by Taz Milner meant we were able to play more of the game in the oppositions half which led to a great wingers try by Jai Armstrong after a ruck steal and quick hands to the flying Jai. Second Rower Blake McQueen also produced a double in the second half with two barnstorming runs down the left hand side. Kobe Courtney converted 2 from 3 in the second half and Lennox then kept us on our toes with two late tries.

Final Score Seahorses 26 to Lennox 19

Points.. 3 Finn Jonsson Consistently good all night…Again.

2  Charlie Paskins What this bloke lacks in size is more than made up for by his never ending effort and rugby smarts.

1 Kobe Courtney Another consistent performer, who along with his goal kicking and straight running got us out of some dangerous situations and placed us in some great field position.

Also big thanks to Andrew Fraser (Frase) who reffed the game last night very well and consistent.

(A great report Commish - Cruzer)
