Vale Ian (Hoops) Hooper - FNC Rugby Referee

It was a very tough day on Saturday as the Ballina Seahorses 2nd grade took on the Lennox Trojans. 7 minutes into the game, long serving referee and identity Ian (Hoops) Hooper while controlling the game unexpectedly suffered a heart attack.

As a club, we offer our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues who knew him well within the greater Rugby Union ranks.

An outcome of this tragic shock was the professionalism and experience provided by both Trojans and Seahorses in delivering the best first responder options. The NSW Ambulance Service have noted the hard work undertaken by those who took on the responsibility of first aid.

A tragedy such as this can be very upsetting and the club is looking to offer some assistance in dealing with this tragedy. In the first instance, we would ask that you discuss with your immediate coach any requirements that you may need.

As we celebrate the life of Raz Burtonwood at this week's home game, we will also highlight Ian's connection with our club.
